Environmental Science
The extractive industry is of particular relevance to A level environmental science, as a study of the physical, chemical and biological conditions of the Earths environment and the relationship of human activities upon them.
The extractive industry can provide many learning opportunities for students to develop an understanding of the components of the lithosphere, minerals resources, land resources, pollution, and physical resource management, and of the way places, people and the environment are interdependent.
It also provides opportunities for students to develop the ability to ask questions and think critically about issues relating to the environment, to consider the rights and responsibilities of different groups of people, to empathise with viewpoints that are not their own, and to consider the positive and negative effects of scientific and technological developments in the acquirement of mineral resources
The extractive industry can provide case studies linked to A level biology and can also provide opportunities for fieldstudies.
