Environmental Engineer

 

Environmental professions are ever increasing within the extractive industry, with the desire of creating a more environmentally sensitive and sustainable industry.

 

Environmental engineers are concerned with assessing and managing the effects of human and other activity on the natural and built environment. They apply their engineering knowledge and skills to develop solutions to environmental problems using the principles of chemistry and biology. They are involved in water and air pollution control, recycling, waste disposal, public health issues, conservation and preservation of wildlife, and the rehabilitation of land, water and air affected by mining, etc. Environmental engineers are also responsible for conducting research and preparing proposals to lessen the impact of developments on the environment.

 

Personal qualities required include planning and problem solving skills, a good background in science and maths, enjoy working in the outdoors, excellent communication skills, and have a precise and methodical approach.
