What's on offer?

Blaster/Shotfirer

"A small amount of explosives can turn a massive amount of rock into rubble that someone else can turn into gold" Gary Kalem, WA Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources authorised shotfirer training instructor

Shot firers, or blasters, are responsible for assembling, positioning and detonating explosives to break or dislodge rock and soil or to demolish structures.

They are also responsible for ensuring that health and safety procedures are followed before, during and after the blasting activity.

There are many opportunities for a shot firer to specialise in an area, such as a quarry and open-cut mining shotfirer, or a tunnelling and underground mining shotfirer.

Personal qualities required include enjoying practical and manual activities, physically fit, maths and science skills and willing to follow safety procedures.
